veronica

Veronica Ng

Attended Fort Hamilton High School
Internship Location: Deloitte

What was your VEI Firm this past year?
I was the CFO for Sweet ‘N Savory Catering, a catering firm that offers a fusion of cuisines and individual meal plans to suit many taste buds. As CFO, I managed all the financial aspects of the firm (preparing financial statements, monthly expense payment reports, and the annual/quarterly reports).

How did you get this particular internship?
I was informed by my VEI administrator that there was an internship opportunity through VEI. To qualify for this opportunity, I participated in Job-Readiness Workshops. The workshops taught me how to properly prepare a résumé and how to handle interviews with potential employers.

How excited are you to begin the internship?
I am thrilled to begin my internship, since this will be my first time interning at a company like Deloitte. It will give me perspective into what it’s like to work for a large and successful organization.

Do you feel your VEI class prepared you for success at this internship?
My VEI class definitely prepared me for success at this internship. With VEI, I got experience with interviewing for a job, developing and presenting a business plan, and managing the financial side of a business.

What do you most look forward to about interning at Deloitte?
I look forward to meeting new people while experiencing and learning new things. I hope this internship will allow me to discover new interests and provide me with additional insight into my future career.

Suveer Seemangal

Attended Queens Vocational and Technical High School
Internship Location: Solarus Technologies

What was your VEI Firm this past year?
I was the CEO for Diverse City Wear, a clothing and retail firm. I oversaw the daily operations of the company as well as worked toward accomplishing the company’s short and long-term goals.

How do you feel about beginning your internship?
I am very excited to begin the internship. I have only interned at organizations related to investigating white-collar crime, so Solarus Technologies is a big switch. I can’t pretend that I am not excited. I daydreamed that by working hard at this company and learning as much as I can, one day I’ll open The New York Times and see the headline “Solarus Revenue Skyrockets to the Solar System.”

Do you feel your VEI class prepared you for success at this internship?
My VEI class prepared me for this internship and much more; I believe students who have a great experience in VEI will be able to succeed in any internship they pursue. As a result of going through the VEI program, I felt very comfortable interviewing with Solarus Technologies. The leadership and time management skills I learned through my VEI class will be the keys to my success at Solarus.

What do you look forward to the most at Solarus?
I look forward to working with different people. It will be a perfect opportunity to network with different professionals in a field that I am not familiar with. I understand that I will be in the field with the engineers, which is pretty exciting.

I hope to gain working experience and a wider variety of skills I can use when I get to college.

Shantel Robinson

Attended the Business of Sports School
Internship Location: Manhattan Borough President’s Office

What was your VEI Firm this past year?
I was the CEO for To Dare is To Do (TDITD). TDITD believes that everyone should be given a fair opportunity to play sports, and having a disability shouldn’t disqualify someone from participating. This past year, we were able to get Nike to sponsor a team of amputee athletes. The team played, and defeated, my high school’s varsity team and TDITD is arranging for them to play the New York Knicks in the future.

How did you get this particular internship?
I got this particular internship by completing the VEI program and attending the prerequisite Job-Readiness Workshops. After the program, workshops, two interviews with VEI’s Internship Managers and one interview with the Borough President’s Office, I secured my internship.

How excited are you to begin the internship?
I’m very excited because I’ll be able to gain experience and learn a lot about working in the real world.

Do you feel your VEI class prepared you for success at this internship?
It was a combination of my VEI class and personal determination.

What do you hope to gain from this internship experience?
I hope to establish lasting relationships with my colleagues at the Borough President’s Office.
