On Friday, November 4, over 500 student executives from 70 Long Island high schools and middle schools gathered to learn and explore key leadership characteristics alongside mentor-leaders in their fields. Chuck Garcia from Long Island University (LIU) delivered opening remarks and presentations demonstrating the importance of communication, leadership, and emotional intelligence.

Students then joined smaller groups based on the positions they hold in their firms, and together they used critical thinking and leadership skills to address scenarios of workplace challenges.

Discussions around emotional intelligence, leadership, and effective problem solving, along with the networking opportunities, made for an exciting kick off to the Long Island VE school year.

We thank Dean Graziela Fusaro, Christopher Bates, Chuck Garcia, and the rest of the team at LIU for helping us put on another successful event. We also extend our gratitude to the incredible group of volunteers and our incredible staff members, Ellen Palazzo, Long Island Regional Director, Meghan Foley, Long Island Regional Coordinator, and Nick Trinh, our Long Island program fellow.
