40 New York City High School Students Will Bring Skills Learned in VEI to City Businesses

New York, NY, June 19, 2014 – JP Morgan Chase announced a $100,000 grant to Virtual Enterprises International (VEI) to fund paid summer internships for 40 high school juniors and seniors enrolled in VEI programs across New York City.  VEI will provide the summer interns with job-readiness workshops in preparation for working with New York City businesses that have mentored and advised VEI programs as well as other businesses in a range of industries, from banking, finance and tech start-ups to food, fashion and retail.

The students are well-prepared to meet the challenges of a summer internship after completing VEI’s in-school, live simulation, and entrepreneurial program in which they [intlink id=”8367″ type=”page”]created and ran their own businesses[/intlink] and engaged in trade with more than 5,000 other virtual enterprises across the city, the nation, and the globe.  Thanks to VEI, the students have spent time during the school year acquiring expertise in communications, problem solving, decision-making, collaboration, technology, and accessing, using and analyzing information—skills that are critical to the establishment, advancement and prosperity of both businesses and communities. In addition to classwork, VEI students are required to attend job readiness workshops to be eligible for internships.

VEI National Director, Iris Blanc said, “VEI students learn business by doing business.  They are workforce ready and equipped with both the hard and soft skills that are needed in all businesses.”   She went on to say that, “VEI is extremely grateful to JP Morgan for helping our students experience a meaningful and productive internship opportunity.”

“Our support for the VEI internship program is a win-win opportunity,” said Michael Haberman, Managing Director of Global Philanthropy at JP Morgan.  “This program gives students the opportunity to enhance their skills in a real workplace, and at the same time, provides businesses with interns whose skills are in demand.”
