“[The event] was really impressive and unlike anything I have ever seen in education,” Brett Jeffares, Connetquot High School, Bohemia, NY
On Wednesday, February 25, 2015, seven VEI firms from Long Island presented their business plans to a panel of industry professionals, who volunteered as judges, for the final round of Long Island’s Business Plan Competition. After a full day of competitions, and a tough decision for the judges, On the Move from John F. Kennedy HS, FlashComm from G.W. Hewlett HS, andHelios from Westhampton HS, were selected to advance to the National Business Plan Competition (NBPC).
On The Move is a company that sells luggage, travel kits and accessories. They also work on innovative products such as GPS systems for consumer luggage and tracking devices for personal belongings.
FlashComm, a firm that provides phone & internet services, including utility, wireless and solar panel products, placed in second. They finished in second place in the country at last year’sNational Business Plan Competition, but are coming back strong, with new innovative ideas and tactics to present at this year’s NBPC.
Taking third place was Helios, a firm that provides eco-friendly technology products powered by renewable energy.
Although the firms fiercely competed for a limited number of spots, “there was a soul of sportsmanship throughout the whole event,” says VEI’s Executive Director Iris Blanc, “the collaborative effort was a great thing to see.” This event was made possible thanks to host and VEI business partner American Portfolios.
